For the first time in history, saving mankind means staying home and watching TV. In order not to screw this up, we can rely on TV shows particularly suitable for a binge marathon.
Dr Gregory House is an excellent diagnostician. It’s his bedside manner that’s lacking. He doesn’t like his patients and he was infected with a flesh-eating bacterium that damaged his leg irreparably and leaves him in constant pain. That’s why he has a team of young doctors, eager to help him in finding the causes for his patients’ illnesses. Dr Cuddy, the administrator of the hospital, has the thankless task of keeping him in line.
House M.D. started airing in 2004 and its success was due to the show being different from the usual medical shows. Each “case of the week” was presented like a puzzle to solve by the doctor and his crew, the patients often presenting with strange symptoms which would lead to the discovery of an exotic illness. House himself won over audiences with glimpses of vulnerability showing through his cantankerous personality.
The show aired from 2004 to 2012 and won numerous awards. The 177 episodes should last until mid-May. Hopefully by then doctors worldwide will be closer to a cure.
House M.D. is available on Amazon, there are 8 seasons.
