My motivation to come to Europe was to explore different cultures and environments. I wanted to become a more well rounded person and living abroad was my opportunity to achieve this.
After living in the god forsaken state of Ohio for the past 2 years, I could not have been more excited to come to Luxembourg. When I decided to come here for a semester abroad I didn’t really know what to expect.
Luxembourg isn’t exactly on the top of the list for tourist destinations, but maybe that’s a good thing. During my time here I visited many different countries and tourist destinations, but after seeing places like Amsterdam, Prague and Florence I began to like Luxembourg even more. Luxembourg feels raw and untainted by American influence.
I only spent a few days in each of these cities and did not get to fully explore them like I did Luxembourg. The point I’m trying to get to is that I feel proud to have lived in Luxembourg.
Many Burgers have asked me “Why Luxembourg?” and for a while I didn’t have a good answer. Now many things come to my mind when asked this question and despite going back to America soon Luxembourg will always have a place in my heart.
I think that if there is one thing Luxembourg lacks it’s a strong nationalistic identity. On the other hand, this lack of identity is why I felt so welcome here. While living in America I didn’t feel at home even in places I should be comfortable.
While living in Luxembourg I felt comfortable in places that I normally wouldn’t. My time here has challenged me to try new things, explore different perspectives and develop an identity that is my own.
1. Free Public transportation
I am a college student and money is not something that I have in abundance so when I heard that Luxembourg had free public transportation I was ecstatic. Free public transportation allowed me to see so much of Luxembourg. It also allowed me to go places I would not normally go because the financial excuse was no longer valid.

3. RTL Today
I interned here for the past 4 months and loved every minute. I would like to especially thank the team for being so awesome and challenging me every day.
4. Looking out the window on the train.
One thing I especially loved was riding the train for my morning commute to Differdange. I always had my headphones in and would stare out the window at the vast fields and wildlife. I will miss the peace that it gave me.
5. The People
Everyone I’ve met and connected with in Luxembourg has been so nice and welcoming. I don’t think I’ve felt unwelcome even once while being here.
6. The slow paced nature of Luxembourg
Other than seeing people running to the train or bus every once in a while, everything in Luxembourg seems much more relaxed compared to America. I loved that people here relax and are not always in a hurry. It rubbed off on me and I’m glad it did.
7. Kebab
I know Kebab shops are everywhere in Europe, but Luxembourg kebabs have always been my favorite. I would also like to give a shout out to Matbah Kebab and Louzi for making me the best kebabs.
