Starting with Luxembourg

  • The latest figures from Luxembourg show that 161 new cases of coronavirus were discovered over the last 24 hours.

  • The Confederation of Public Servants (CGFP) issued a statement to criticise the lack of cooperation on behalf of the Minister for the Civil Service. Both parties are in conflict over the potential introduction of the CovidCheck system at work as of 1 November. CGFP officials met with Marc Hansen on Monday, but the meeting seems to have been unfruitful.

And abroad

  • Hong Kong will tighten coronavirus travel restrictions to bring it more into line with the Chinese mainland, its leader said Tuesday, as the city extended its streak of more than two months without a major local outbreak.

  • Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro found himself in social media time-out Monday after his video warning of a supposed link between Covid-19 vaccines and AIDS triggered action by Facebook and YouTube.

  • China placed Lanzhou, a northwestern city of four million, under lockdown Tuesday in a bid to stamp out a domestic coronavirus spike, with residents told not to leave home except in emergencies.
  • All Italians are likely to be offered booster shots for the coronavirus vaccine to help contain the spread of new variants, a government official said on Tuesday.

  • Singapore will allow quarantine-free entry for vaccinated travellers from Australia and Switzerland from next month, officials said Tuesday, adding to a list of 10 other countries, including the United States and several European nations.
