Starting with Luxembourg

  • The latest figures from Luxembourg show that 91 new cases of coronavirus were discovered over the last 24 hours. There was one new death.

  • The government submitted amendments to the new Covid law on Friday morning.

  • Since the announcement of the Covid law, the Covid-19 helpline was temporarily overwhelmed, as it received up to 4,000 calls per day. Almost twice as many people also visited the vaccination centres for spontaneous jabs.

And abroad

  • Accelerating the pace of vaccinations worldwide will be key not just to containing the coronavirus pandemic, but also to resolving the speed bumps besetting the global economic recovery, IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva said Thursday.
  • Sydney is scrapping mandatory quarantine for overseas travellers from next month, officials said Friday, signalling a faster-than-expected end to tough coronavirus restrictions.
  • The Guardian reports this morning that at least 43,000 people may have wrongly received a negative Covid test result from a lab run in Wolverhampton. People had reported negative PCR test results after having previously tested positive on a lateral flow test.
  • Pfizer and BioNTech said Friday they had submitted data to the EU’s medicines watchdog for the approval of their coronavirus vaccine for children aged 5 to 11, following a similar step in the United States.
  • The United States will allow travellers who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to enter by land or air starting November 8.
