French energy giant EDF confirmed the news on Tuesday.
The Cattenom power plant is located around 15 kilometres from the border with Luxembourg, and 20 kilometres from Luxembourg City.
This means Luxembourg City is the European capital situated closest to a nuclear power plant,a cause of concern for some.
