PANORAMIC LIFT ISSUE –A technical issue yesterday at the panoramic lift in Pfaffenthal caused it to malfunction, leaving two people stranded and requiring the Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) to free the passengers. No injuries were reported
FATAL ACCIDENT – A fatal accident was reported on Saturday evening on the CR320 in northern Luxembourg, resulting in the death of a 24-year-old motorcyclist of Belgian-Luxembourgish origin, who apparently slid off the road and hit a tree.
CLEAN-UP DAY – Since the movement began in 2008, 20 September has become World Clean Up Day and Saturday saw over 50 volunteers in Luxembourg join millions worldwide in collecting litter, highlighting the urgent need to curb over-consumption, and raise awareness about pollution.
BUS SHELTER FIRE – A police patrol discovered a bus shelter in flames on Saturday evening at the top of Route de Luxembourg, near a retirement home. The shelter, built of concrete, contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading further. Officers soon encountered a man wandering nearby who appeared intoxicated. Upon questioning, he immediately confessed to starting the fire. The man explained that he felt cold and had intended to spend the night inside the shelter.

PHILLIPPINES DEMONSTRATION – Police in the Philippine capital Manila have arrested more than 200 people during clashes with masked protesters, of which 88 detainees were minors, during a demonstration yesterday. The demonstrators took to the streets in response to a scandal involving false flood-control projects worth billions of dollars.
BRAZILIAN PROTEST – Tens of thousands of Brazilians protested against lawmaers' moves to grant recently-convicted Jair Bolsonaro amnesty. The former president was sentenced last week to 27 years in prison for plotting a coup against the current government.
NORTH KOREA – North Korean leader Kim Jong Un says he has "fond memories" of US President Donald Trump and is open to future talks with the United States, on the condition that he keep his nuclear weapons.
PALESTINE RECOGNISED – Britain, Australia, Canada, and Portugal recognised the State of Palestine on Sunday, a historic shift in decades of Western foreign policy that drew swift anger from Israel and a rebuke from the United States.

TENNIS – Team World beat Europe in the eight edition of the Laver cup, winning 15-9 at Chase Center – home of the NBA's Golden State Warriors.
ATHLETICS – Kenyan athletes triumph at the Tokyo Worlds with seven gold medals, but fears persist about year-long doping allegations.
CYCLING – Luxembourg's very own cycling race, the Skoda Tour de Luxembourg, concluded on Sunday, with American cyclist Romain Grégoire finishing first.
