ING CLOSURESWorries are mounting at ING as reports indicate that up to 15,000 more clients may face account closures, while the bank assured its staff that no jobs will be lost. In May, ING informed 30,000 clients that their accounts would be closed, advising them to transfer their funds to other banks.

HIGH TECH GLASS – A new production line for high-tech glass roofs in the automotive industry has officially opened in Grevenmacher. The inauguration, held on 21 September, was attended by Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, and Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden, among others. 60 new jobs are being created here.

POPE VISIT – The Vatican is confident that there will be no issues preventing the pope from making his journey to Luxembourg on Thursday. After experiencing flu-like symptoms earlier this week, Pope Francis was forced to cancel his scheduled audiences on Monday, leading to concerns here in the Grand Duchy regarding his scheduled visit to Luxembourg. However, the Vatican has stressed that this measure was taken as a precaution and not a cause for serious concern.

World

MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT – The Israeli military and Hezbollah have continued to trade heavy fire across the Israel–Lebanon border, defying international calls for a de-escalation in the current conflict. Health officials in Lebanon say more than 560 people have been killed within 48 hours. Israel has accused Hezbollah of hiding weapons in residential areas. Lebanese media are reporting that Israeli warplanes are pounding villages in south Lebanon for a third day, while Israel said it intercepted a missile fired after sirens sounded early morning in Tel Aviv.

UKRAINE WAR – Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has told a special session at the UN Security Council that Russia can only be forced into peace by united international action. He said Putin had broken so many international norms and rules, he wouldn't stop on his own. He was supported by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

COMBS ACCUSED – US rapper and producer Sean Combs, also known as P Diddy, is facing another accusation of rape. In a lawsuit filed in New York, a woman has alleged she was drugged and raped by Combs and one of his colleagues in the star's music studio more than 20 years ago. Thalia Graves held a tearful press conference, in which she said the emotional and mental pain from the 2001 attack remains with her. More than 10 women have now accused the star of abuse and assault, which he denies.

TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT – Prosecutors in the US have charged a person with the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Ryan Routh, 58, was already charged with two gun-related charges after he was accused of pointing a rifle through a fence at Trump's golf club in Florida earlier this month.

FOOTBALL – Tonight is the start of the new season in the Europa League. In a new format, the 36-team league will see each club play eight matches. Among tonight's matches, Manchester United take on Twente, Nice play against against San Sebastian, and Dynamo Kyiv are meeting Lazio Rome.

CRICKETEngland captain Harry Brook's maiden one-day international century revived his side's series hopes against Australia as they beat the world champions by 46 runs at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday. Victory in the third ODI left England 2-1 down with two to play.

BASKETBALL – Jayson Tatum said the Boston Celtics are hungry for more titles as they prepare to launch the defence of their NBA crown when the new season tips off next month. Boston open the 2024/2025 season against the New York Knicks on October 22.
