PM CONDEMNS ATTACK - On Sunday morning, Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden sharply condemned the assassination attempt against former US President Donald Trump on his social media. As shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, PM Frieden wrote in English that there is "absolutely no place for political violence in our democracies" and that he strongly condemns the shooting. Frieden further wrote that his thoughts are with the former US President and all the victims.
ECHTERNACH STABBING - On Saturday night, there was a stabbing incident in Echternach. A dispute broke out in a café on the local market square, eventually escalating with a knife being used and resulting in two people being injured, one of them seriously. As confirmed by the prosecutor's office on Sunday afternoon, two suspects have already been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
HIT AND RUN APPEAL - Police have issued a witness appeal after a nine-year-old girl was injured in a hit-and-run accident near a shopping centre in Potaschberg at 3.50pm on Saturday. As the child was walking across the zebra crossing, the car, with a German number plate, reportedly drove over her foot without stopping. The young girl was taken to the hospital where she received treatment for her injuries. Grevenmacher police are calling on the individual responsible for the accident, as well as any witnesses who may have observed the incident, to come forward.
MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS - The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps reported three accidents across Luxembourg on Saturday evening, with four people sustaining injuries. A motorcyclist suffered a fall between Oberfeulen and Mertzig at 9.45pm, suffering injuries in the process. Two people were later injured in a car collision between Esch-sur-Alzette and Belvaux. Emergency medical services were also on the scene. At 10.30pm, one person was injured in an accident involving a car and a motorcycle between Abweiler and Leudelange.

BIDEN PLEA - US President Joe Biden sought to calm a divided nation on Sunday after his rival Donald Trump survived an assassination bid, saying in a rare Oval Office address that it was time to lower the temperature of America's hostile politics. "It's time to cool it down. We all have a responsibility to do that," Biden said in a televised address following the attack in which Republican Trump was injured in the ear and a bystander, Corey Comperatore, was killed by gunfire. The 20-year-old shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot dead by Secret Service agents amid scenes of chaos.
CEASEFIRE WITHDRAWAL - A Hamas official said on Sunday that the Palestinian group was withdrawing from Gaza truce talks, as Israeli bombardments hit a school a day after a deadly strike targeting the militant commander Mohammed Deif. The civil defence agency in Gaza said 15 people were killed in the strike, the fifth attack in just over a week to hit a school used as shelter by displaced Palestinians. Meanwhile, Israeli demonstrators, sometimes in the tens of thousands, have stepped up their actions demanding the government reach a deal to free the captives taken by Hamas militants on October 7th.
GERMANY SHOOTING - On Sunday in the town of Albstadt-Lautlingen in southwestern Germany, two people were shot dead, police have said, adding that the suspected gunman was also found dead in what appeared to be a domestic incident. Regional broadcaster SWR, citing security sources, said the gunman was a 63-year-old man who killed his mother and son and injured his wife and daughter.
FRANCE SHOOTING - On Saturday evening in a small French village in Allier, a family birthday party took a devastating turn as a neighbour opened fire on the party, killing three people, before turning the gun on himself. According to AFP, four people are in emergency care after the incident, but their injuries are not life threatening.

FOOTBALL - Spain have secured a record 4th European Championship after defeating England by 2 goals to 1 at the Euro 2024 final Berlin with goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal securing the title after England substitute Cole Palmer had drawn things level in the 2nd-half.
In the Copa America final in Miami, a Lautaro Martinez goal deep into extra time secured a record sixteenth title for Argentina as they beat Colombia 1-0.
TENNIS - Carlos Alcaraz powered past Novac Djokovic to retain his men’s singles title at Wimbledon on Sunday, securing the victory in straight sets.
CYCLING - At the Tour de France Tadej Pogacar extended his overall lead to more than three minutes on Sunday with a convincing second-straight stage win in the Pyrenees, his 14th Tour de France stage win aged just 25.
Weather
A yellow alert has been announced by Meteolux. At 6pm, winds are expected to pick up speeds of 70 to 90 km/h, with a combination of rain and hail. MeteoLux further warns that rainfall is expected to reach 20 to 30 litres per square metre within a short period of time, potentially prompting a stronger alert.
Morning temperatures will be at a comfortable 13-15°C, rising to nice summer temperatures of 27-29°C in the afternoon. But don't forget to hold on to your umbrellas, as the evening predicts chances of thunder and rain with temperatures at 22-24°C.
