In a peculiar incident on Saturday morning, a hotel guest in Pforzheim was rudely awakened by a burning mattress.

The 58-year-old was roused by the smell of smoke and discovered that his mattress had caught fire, reports Zeit Online. The mattress was subsequently dragged onto the balcony in an attempt to extinguish the flames.

Emergency services transported the 58-year-old to the hospital with smoke inhalation and minor burn injuries.

According to the police, the other hotel guests were able to leave the hotel unharmed. The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department, and the guests were able to return to their rooms.

However, the affected room cannot be occupied for the time being, according to the fire department. The damage is reported to be minor.
