BUERGBRENNEN PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY -

Preparations are underway for Sunday’s end-of-winter celebration in Bertrange courtesy of the local youth club, Guides and Scouts. Every year, on the first Sunday of Lent, it is tradition in Luxembourg to celebrate the “Buergbrennen” in different municipalities, burning structures or “castles” made of wood in order to symbolically bid farewell to winter and welcome spring.

At nightfall, a torchlight procession (known as a “Fakelzuch”) makes its way through the streets of the town before gathering at the structure, made of old wood, and lighting the fire.
