Every year, on the first Sunday of Lent, it is tradition in Luxembourg to celebrate the “Buergbrennen” in different municipalities, burning structures or “castles” made of wood in order to symbolically bid farewell to winter and welcome spring.
At nightfall, a torchlight procession (known as a “Fakelzuch”) makes its way through the streets of the town before gathering at the structure, made of old wood, and lighting the fire.
In Bertrange, preparations are going well. Emile Mentz visited the Bertrange site to photograph preparations for Sunday’s event.
