The petition was signed by over 5,000 people and should soon see significant development.

The idea behind the petition was not to replace bottled water with carafes of water, but rather to offer an additional service of tap water that would not have to be free; restaurant owners could decide their own price.

Opinion: Why free tap water should be a given
In some countries, restaurants charge for service, something Luxembourg's customers are not too used to. However, the public seems to appreciate the idea of offering a carafe of water, whether free or not.

The competent ministry has planned two awareness campaigns on this matter next year. It is above all about promoting tap water in general and more specifically, in order to support the idea of the petition, to offer carafes to restaurateurs so that they are able to offer this option at their establishment.
