One need not fly to the ends of Europe or beyond in order to witness impressive landscapes or discover valuable cultural works. This is the message Minister of Tourism Lex Delles wants to convey to residents within the Grand Duchy’s borders and beyond.

Five activities for the perfect Luxembourg stay-cationThe campaign "Vakanz doheem" aims to demonstrate the rich national heritage to both locals and people living in the Greater Region.

International sites are thus set on par with their Luxembourgish counterpart: the ancient French Rocamadour bulwarks with old town of Luxembourg, Clervaux Abbey with the Croatia’s Trogir church, Useldange castle with Scotland’s Threave castle, the Mullerthal waterfall with Italian waterfall and even the Fond-de-gras industrial site finds its equivalent in Skagway in Alaska.

These may sound like bold claims and connections, yet the pictures do them justice!

The promotional campaign additionally looks to raise awareness through participation, with augmented reality portals that offer the possibility to admire panoramic 360° views of different tourist spots or other unusual places throughout the country. A photo competition has been launched across social networks with the hashtag #vakanzdoheem.

GUIDE FOR ONE DAY

Simultaneously, the Minister presented the third edition of the "Guide for one day” initiative which runs until 5 September, 2019. 30 guides have registered and offer up to 80 diverse and original visits. All the guides are volunteers, independent of the official Tourist Office guides.

The project allows international visitors and local adventurers alike to come together in a friendly and informal setting so as to discover the many and multifarious layers of Luxembourg together.
