The National Employment Agency (ADEM) on Monday released the latest unemployment figures for Luxembourg, showing that 17,733 people were looking for work as of 30 September this year. This represents a year-on-year increase of 7.1% (+1,168 jobseekers,) but the “seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate calculated by STATEC remained stable at 5.8%", according to the press release.

The most significant increase in jobseekers affects the groups of highly skilled workers and those aged 30–44 years old. Construction is the sector most affected by the increase, and it is followed by transportation, industry, accounting, IT, and banking.
The number of people receiving unemployment benefits went up by 16% (+1,404 people) year-on-year. 117 new jobseekers registered with ADEM in September 2024, an increase of 3.7% from the previous month. This number includes 63 Ukrainian refugees who live in Luxembourg under temporary protection.
ADEM registered 3,110 new job openings in September which aligns with last year’s figures for the month. However, from year to year, the number of openings has gone down by 24.9%. A total of 6,737 jobs were available at ADEM as of 30 September 2024.
