State prosecutor in interviewThe digital age has increased the consumption of child pornography: David Lentz

RTL Today
The deputy state prosecutor was a guest on RTL Radio on Thursday morning.

The number of cases surrounding child pornography is on the rise. While previous years only treated around 40 such cases, 72 incidents have already been reported in 2020, David Lentz noted.

The state prosecutor explained that the rise was a consequence of the facilitated access to child pornography via the internet. He warned that parents often give little consideration to the material their children upload and that they should more closely monitor their children’s online activities in the future.

As it turns out, a third of culprits are minors, a fact that came as a surprise, Lentz admitted. In some cases the behaviour can be considered random, while others clearly depict compulsions towards child pornography.

Police recently carried out 46 searchers related to similar incidents. Thousands of images were confiscated and need to be evaluated to identify possible victims.

When asked about the statute of limitations, the prosecutor noted that this would be a “slap in the face” for any victim.
