Updated - Police intervention at KrautmaartSuspicious package to Chamber President Fernand Etgen intercepted

Due to a police intervention in Luxembourg City, Rue du Marché-aux-Herbes and the general area around 'Krautmaart' are closed off until further notice.

According to the police, a suspicious object has been found. At around 10am on Friday, the security personnel of the Chamber of Deputies intercepted a suspicious package addressed to Fernand Etgen, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, according to information provided by the Luxembourgish parliament. Etgen is currently in self-isolation at home following a positive rapid test result on Thursday.

The affected buildings were evacuated, and the police set up a security perimeter. According to the Chamber of Deputies, the situation is under control.

The bomb squad was deployed to Krautmaart, and the public was asked to avoid the area. At around 11.30pm the perimeter was lifted, according to the Chamber of Deputies on Twitter. The authorities confirmed there had been no danger and the item in question was not a dangerous object.
