When the Prime Minister called for solidarity and requested people remain at home in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus, he also made it clear that the public should act respectfully and responsibily.

We have reported on so-called 'hamster shoppers' and panic buyers already, with images of empty shelves further worrying those that either cannot make it to the stores or simply are wanting to keep social distance from others.
Supermarkets in Luxembourg inundated with customers, shelves quickly emptying out

Many of our readers would suggest that there is no reason to 'panic', and while stocks are recovered and replenished daily there is enough to go around.

That being said, bulk buyers are still ransacking stores.

This has led heads of Auchan to release a statement, here is a translation:
"For the past two weeks we have set up a customer monitoring team and are extremely attentive to developments.

We are implementing the preventive measures recommended by the health authorities and the safety of people is given priority.

As such, measures have been taken such as the closure of the children's space and the drastic and regular cleaning of shopping carts, door handles, handled crates and all other sensitive elements, both internally for our employees and externally for our Customers.

We are facing an exceptional increase in activity and unfortunately some products are sometimes no longer available during the day but we are able to replenish our stores for the next day at the latest.

We make every effort to enable our customers to shop in the best conditions and strive to reduce unnecessary issues and checkout waiting.

We therefore call for citizenship and respect for everyone, in the current situation it is essential to think of helping people with the most vulnerable and those who also need basic necessities.

Once again we are able to replenish our stores within the limits of respectful and reasoned consumption.

We count on your vigilance and thank you for your trust.
