Of the roughly 9,300 non-profit associations (ASBLs) officially registered in Luxembourg, only about 3,400 – or 37% – have so far updated their statutes to comply with the new ASBL law introduced in 2023.
This means that around 60% of all associations are still not in line with the legislation, which became mandatory on 24 September after a two-year transition period. Any statutes that have not been updated and therefore contradict the new provisions are now considered null and void.
Among the country’s 192 foundations, just 80 have updated their statutes – roughly 42%. Committees seeking guidance on how to adapt their statutes can find detailed information and resources at myasbl.lu.
The figures were provided by Justice Minister Elisabeth Margue in response to a parliamentary question submitted by Democratic Party (DP) deputies Carlo Backes and Corinne Cahen.
