Due to human error, an email carrying a wrong attachment was sent out from the National Institute of Education (IFEN).
Twenty-six recipients were supposed to receive a form. However, the attached document in fact contained personal data belonging to 1,800 staff members of the national education system.
The Ministry of Education confirmed to RTL upon request that the recipients also work in education.
The data sent includes names, addresses, email addresses, and employee ID numbers, and in some cases the school or subject taught by the respective staff member.
No pupils were affected. Once the error was noticed, recipients were asked to delete the email, and those whose data had been shared in error were informed.
The Data Protection Officer (DPO) and Luxembourg's National Commission for Data Protection were also notified.
The Ministry of Education clarified that sending personal data by email is not standard practice.
