The auction was initiated after the Post was not able to come to an agreement with with either the commune or the housing fund.
Since 2015 the Post group have been modernising their commercial network which has lead to the closure of a number of stores, especially those that are not very busy. They are being replaced with "Post Points" in shopping centres.
The post office in Echternach was also closed in recent years, and the building in Beaufort has been standing empty for four years.
This brings the total number of offices closed or relocated to 39, out of 97.
