On the evening of 28 August, customs officers at Findel inspected the luggage of three passengers who had arrived on a flight from Warsaw. An Armenian national and two Bulgarian nationals were carrying six suitcases filled with cigarettes from non-EU countries, which they were planning to slip past customs.

In total, 122,418 cigarettes, originating from Turkey and Armenia, were counted. The route via Yerevan, Istanbul, and Warsaw had been chosen to make the journey look like a purely European one.

Cooperation with the French authorities revealed that the cigarettes had been destined for delivery in the Bordeaux area. French customs authorities have been informed of the seizure.
