The majority of Weiswampach residents voted against the Suneopark project on Sunday.

Weiswampach has had its say: almost 900 people were consulted on the subject of a hotel complex construction planned for the municipality.

Of the 822 valid votes, 494 voted against the project, with 328 in favour.

The referendum was consultative, with the local municipality authority to make the final decision on the project. Mayor Norbert Morn made it clear they would not abandon the project in advanced stages, whatever the referendum result.

FIRST HOLIDAY VILLAGE IN THE COUNTRY

The "Suneopark" project comprises a four star hotel with 91 rooms, 100 wooden chalets, a "fun park" with a beach, a pontoon for nautical activities, a treetop adventure park, and so on.

The tourism investment project will cost around 50 million euros and will receive 10% subsidisation from the government, said Francine Closener, Secretary of State for the Economy.

It is also expected to create around 50 jobs for the municipality of Weiswampach.
