The City of Luxembourg released a statement on Friday evening alerting the public that a parking meter within city limits had been tampered with. A fraudulent device had been discovered on one of the machines, specifically targeting users who pay with their card, including contactless payments. The purpose of the device is to steal card information or funds from unsuspecting motorists.
The municipal administration cautioned that other parking meters could also be affected and advised the public to remain vigilant. According to the statement, the genuine card reader on the city's parking meters is inside the machine's surface; any additional box, module, or suspicious element attached to the machine is not part of the official equipment.
Anyone who notices such a device on a parking meter is urged to immediately call 113 and inform the police.
