The 52-year-old defendant stands accused of killing his former partner in her own home in September 2022, after conducting an affair with her for the past year.

During the investigation, the defendant blamed his nephew for the murder, who had entered into a sham marriage with the victim. However, during the trial, it emerged the defendant had stabbed the woman to death out of jealousy as she had begun a new relationship with someone else.

After the murder, the defendant and his nephew dismembered the victim’s body in her basement and disposed of her torso in Mont-Saint-Martin, France, and her legs and head in Temmels, Germany.

The defendant’s lawyer said the trial painted a portrait of the ideal culprit, but that the case was full of ambiguities. Why would the defendant have been jealous of the victim’s new partner, as the victim had had previous parallel relationships and the defendant himself had no plans to divorce his own spouse. In addition, the nephew fled to Morocco after the murder and now has an international warrant out for his arrest.

The verdict is due on 5 February 2026.
