Three years ago, a female torso was found in Mont-Saint-Martin, France, near a former supermarket and close to the Luxembourgish border. About six weeks later, additional parts of the woman’s body were discovered in Temmels, near Trier in Germany. As the victim, a 40-year-old Portuguese national, was a Diekirch resident, the Luxembourgish public prosecutor’s office was brought into the investigation.

On Monday, the trial of a 51-year-old Moroccan man, who has been in pre-trial detention since October 2022, opens at the Diekirch district court. He is described as the victim’s friend and former lover and is accused of killing her.

The defendant, however, has implicated another man, his 48-year-old nephew, also of Moroccan origin, as the perpetrator. The nephew is believed to have had a relationship with the victim and is thought to have fled to Morocco after the case came to light. He is currently wanted under an international arrest warrant.
