Patients also want more information regarding details of reimbursement and care.

Michèle Wennmacher of the Patientevertriedung explained that patients' attitudes towards the medical sector are changing gradually. Wennmacher said patients were displaying a propensity for more information, and a desire to participate in discussions.

Rather than the traditional and paternalistic format, patients are looking to open a peer-to-peer dialogue with doctors, in an equivalent exchange. For this reason, many patients have used Patientevertriedung to obtain information on other treatments or pathologies, or if they have the right to seek a second opinion.

Last year, the non-profit organisation received 924 calls for complaints or requests for additional information. In 2017, there were only 885.

Patients also address the Patientevertriedung by email and 24 people asked for advice via Facebook. The non-profit organisation has opened 138 files that will be processed in the coming months.
