On Friday evening at around 6pm, police received a report of a theft in a shop on Avenue de la Gare in the capital. A patrol soon after came across a man matching the description of the perpetrator. During the ensuing check, the man was uncooperative and resisted the officers.
Two police officers were slightly injured while trying to restrain the man. A search then turned up the stolen goods. The public prosecutor's office, which was informed of the case, ordered the man's arrest. He also had a previous conviction for theft. After a medical check, he was taken to the prison in Sanem.
On Saturday morning, three further shop thefts were reported to police, with the alleged perpetrators in each case held on the spot by staff or security personnel until officers arrived. A report was drawn up in all cases.
Two people were the victims of a trick theft at a bus stop on Route d'Arlon in Strassen on Friday afternoon at around 2.45pm. A woman approached the pair, drew them both into a hug and then ran off. Shortly afterwards, the victims realised that a watch and a chain had been taken. Police have opened an investigation.
