Robert Schuman Hospital GroupParallel emergency services work perfectly fine, argues Georges Heirendt

RTL Today
On Monday morning, the new president of the Hôpitaux Robert Schuman (HRS) group sat down for an interview with our colleagues at RTL Radio.

Heirendt announced that three quarters of the Kirchberg and City centre hospital staff have been vaccinated by now. He conveyed his satisfaction over this rate, but also noted that they still want to increase it further.

A vaccine mandate, like the one about to be implemented in France, is a delicate issue, Heirendt explained. He believes it to be extremely difficult to combine responsibility for patients on the one hand, and rights of personnel on the other.

When it comes to the parallel emergency services offered in the Luxembourg City centre and in Kirchberg, the HRS president argued that the system works perfectly fine. The number of emergency cases treated in later hospital have increased by a third, Heirendt conveyed.

When asked about the vaccine controversy from earlier this year, Heirendt bluntly said that he would have done the same thing as the other board members, given that it is clear for him and others in the health sector that they are essential for the inner workings of a hospital. He also expressed his belief that the controversy has not damaged the reputation of the institution in any way.

Although the case may be closed for hospital officials, a new general director has yet to be appointed.
