On Wednesday the General Secretary of Horesca, François Koepp, requested that VAT on alcohol purchased by businesses in the sector should once again drop from 17% to 3%.
Koepp cited examples of neighbouring countries and argued this would enable restaurant, café and hotel owners to maintain prices.
However, on Friday the government confirmed such a reduction was not planned.
