Four driving licences were confiscated in the context of official alcohol checks. The police checked 160 drivers on Route de Remich in Moutfort between 11pm and midnight on Friday evening, resulting in seven drivers testing positive. Of those, three drivers were immediately required to surrender their driving licences.
Simultaneously, alcohol checks were conducted at three different locations within Luxembourg City, involving 107 drivers in total. Five of them tested positive, but only one driver lost their driving licence as a consequence.
Between 12.30am and 1.30am, another checkpoint in Filsdorf saw 30 drivers pulled over for testing, with two showing positive results. However, none of these drivers had to surrender their driving licence.
Elsewhere, incidents of drink driving led to accidents. In Mondercange, around 4.30am on Saturday morning, a car crashed into a tree. The driver was able to free himself from the vehicle, which caught fire shortly afterwards.
Shortly after, at approximately 5am, another vehicle collided with a tree in Redange, resulting in the driver being hospitalised with minor injuries.
In the capital’s Eich neighbourhood, shortly after midnight, a collision occurred between a car and a parked van. Around 2am, police discovered a car in a ditch on CR121, with the driver having fallen asleep behind the wheel.
In all four cases, excessive alcohol consumption was a contributing factor, leading to the surrender of driving licences.
In addition, another driving licence was confiscated at approximately 2.30am on Route de Luxembourg in Luxembourg City, where the driver was found to be intoxicated.
