Patrick Goldschmidt, a member of the municipal executive board (Schäfferot) and in charge of mobility, announced on social media that the municipality had received the authorisation of the Ministry of the Environment.

This means that the local authorities now have all of the required permits. According to Goldschmidt, construction is expected to begin before the end of 2023.

Since the project’s presentation in 2007, the cycle bridge above Neudorf has been the subject of heated discussions in the capital. While some welcome the planned connection between Cents and Weimershof, others are vehemently opposed.

Animal welfare has also been a concern. In spring 2022, four eagle-owls were born about a kilometre away from the planned bridge. These animals are protected and could be disturbed by the bridge.
