The bridge in question is to connect Cents to Weimershof. The bridge and the lift will be steel constructions, with the bridge being 70 metres high and six metres wide.

According to the draft, the entire project is expected to cost around €18 million.

In a recently released statement, the interest group Neudorf criticised the project in several aspects.

The interest group states that the municipality’s idea of involving local residents was nothing more than a “fake”. The group also wonders what Patrick Goldschmidt, a member of the municipal executive, meant when he wrote “promise kept” on his Facebook page.

In its statement, the group accuses the ruling Democratic Party (DP) of catering to environmentalists and cyclists in the hopes that they would vote for them, while not showing any concern for local merchants and shop owners.

The group deems the project “absolutely useless” for pedestrians, pointing out that except for people living in one neighbourhood and working in the other, no one had any reason to use either the bridge or the lift as there is neither a school, nor a restaurant, nor any type of shop in Neudorf.

The project would “disfigure” the neighbourhood and instead of preserving the nature surrounding it, the municipality wants to impose a giant construction on the residents, the group concludes and stresses that it unanimously rejects the project.
