Protestors first gathered on the Plateau du St Esprit, from where they embarked on a cycling tour across the city centre towards Limpertsberg. The tour was meant to be a symbolic act, designed to raise awareness of traffic issues for cyclists.
The entire event gathered significant attention in its run-up phase, as the municipality of Luxembourg City almost chose to prohibit the protest tour after differences of opinion with the organisers. In the end, the dispute was solved after the latter party accepted the new route proposed by Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer.
ProVelo president Monique Goldschmit emphasised the importance of being able to make their message heard, which is why they accepted the compromise. The organisation wants to highlight that bicycles are not taken seriously enough.
Protestors stopped cycling at specific locations that they consider to regularly provoke problematic situations in traffic. However, some of these areas, such as Avenue Marie-Thérèse, for instance, were not on the route. City officials redesigned the tour ahead of the event to only include "safe" passages.
Police officers were also present on Saturday to accompany the protest tour.
