The start of the new school year sees more than 104,000 children and young people returning to Luxembourg's public education system.
Of these, over 58,000 are enrolled in primary education, which covers pre-school and primary levels, while around 45,000 will attend secondary schools. The Ministry of Education has also reported that almost 7,000 secondary school students are currently enrolled in international programmes.
Among the youngest children, just over 2,700 are beginning their education this year.
Primary education employs around 6,600 teachers, of whom 80 percent are women and 20 percent are men.
To accommodate the roughly 102,000 pupils enrolled last year, nearly 77,000 childcare places were available in facilities such as Maisons Relais, foyers, and crèches. These figures were published by the Ministry of Education.
In secondary education, the gender balance among teachers is more even. Out of nearly 6,200 teachers, 55 percent are women and 45 percent are men.
