Luxembourg's public research institutes will benefit from an additional €16 million by 2021.

Minister of Education Claude Meisch announced on Tuesday morning that Luxembourg's public research institutes will benefit from an additional €16 million by 2021. They will also obtain a "performance bonus" of €20.5 million.

The University of Luxembourg, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and technology (LIST), the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER), the National Research Fund (FNR), and the ULCC are allocated a total of €1.5 billion between 2018 and 2021.

Meisch also took advantage of the occasion to present the national strategies for research and innovation up until 2030. He stressed that these strategies serve as a guiding principle and still leave freedom to the researchers. Four areas are prioritised: changes in industries and services, sustainable development, personalised medicine and health, and education. Artificial intelligence will also be a priority.
