Minister of the Economy Lex Delles has expressed reservations about the proposed changes at Luxtrust following the resignation of its president, Serge Allegrezza, from the board. In an RTL interview, the minister stressed that the essential guarantee is a functional and resilient system.
Delles was responding to Allegrezza’s announcement that Luxtrust is developing additional technical solutions to prevent a repeat of December’s hours-long service outage. While the minister called the discussions at Wednesday’s board meeting “a first step towards making things better”, he questioned why such measures were not proposed earlier.
The minister noted he learned of the president’s explanations through the press. On the day of the outage, Delles had publicly criticised the company and questioned its monopoly. Even after the board meeting, he maintained the need to explore where Luxembourg could collaborate with other service providers. “These considerations need to be conducted in a calm manner”, Delles stated, leaving the door open to alternatives to Luxtrust.
Delles also rejected Allegrezza’s concern that the company’s 130 employees might face job insecurity as a result of such changes. He argued that while Luxtrust would remain an important player, that was not a valid reason to avoid making the company sufficiently resilient for the future.
The minister added that the landscape has evolved significantly since Luxtrust was founded 20 years ago under Allegrezza’s leadership.
