The RGTR (“Régime Général des Transports Routiers”) bus network will undergo a partial overhaul, affecting approximately a hundred buses. These adjustments in timetables and routes aim to better cater to the needs of public transport users. Changes to the RGTR network occur biannually to optimise public transportation.
Petra Svoboda, Head of Communications at the Public Transport Administration, discussed the upcoming changes with our colleagues from RTL Radio.
In the capital, new interchanges at Howald and Cloche d’Or will open, along with five additional tram stops, culminating in a terminus near Stade de Luxembourg, Svoboda explained.
Major changes are also planned in Nordstad, Colmar-Berg, and Reisdorf.
A new RGTR route strategy has been devised in collaboration with local authorities, spurred by ongoing construction works at Ettelbruck station. These updates will enhance connections, timetables, and links, according to Svoboda. In Ettelbruck, two new stops will alleviate congestion at the station and facilitate smoother transfers. Additionally, adjustments to timetables across northern lines aim to improve integration between trains and buses.
“To address saturation on certain lines, we will deploy larger buses in select areas, introduce additional routes, and adjust timetables accordingly,” Svoboda explained.
In industrial zones like Colmar-Berg, Steinsel, Dudelange (Wolser), Roodt-sur-Syre, and Contern, several busy “factory lines” will be integrated into the regular RGTR network, making them accessible to everyone, Svoboda said.
In Ettelbruck too, modifications to timetables and the introduction of additional routes will improve bus-to-bus and bus-to-train connections, she continued.
Due to ongoing works on the A3 motorway, bus timetables will be adapted to better reflect the actual situation on the ground.
