According to Meteolux, the meteorological station at Luxembourg-Findel airport reported a winter characterised by 252.7 mm of rainfall – around 15% higher than the historical average for the region. While January experienced the heaviest downpours, December and February were drier.
January, in particular, stood out with its unusually high rainfall, making it the third wettest January in the station’s history. This surge was attributed to deep low-pressure systems over the North Atlantic and Western Europe, which brought frequent rain-bearing weather fronts to Luxembourg. A total of over 148 litres of rain per square meter was recorded, exceeding the climatological average of 72.0 l/m² for the past 30 years by 106%. One of the most intense rainfall events occurred on Sunday, 5 January, when nearly 25 litres of rain fell per square metre in a single day.
In contrast, snowfall was notably sparse, with only four days of measurable snow and a maximum snow depth of just 7 cm on 23 December.

Temperature-wise, the winter was relatively mild. The average temperature for the season was 2.1°C, slightly above the long-term average of 1.9°C. The warmest day occurred on 21 February, when the temperature reached 15.4°C, while the coldest was recorded on January 14 at -7.5°C.
Despite the overall mildness, there were 50 frost days and 10 days with sub-zero maximum temperatures.
Luxembourg saw just 142.4 hours of sunshine this winter – 18% below the seasonal average. December was particularly gloomy, with only 25 hours of sunshine compared to the usual 41.9 hours.
Meteolux concludes that winter 2024/25 was wet and overcast, with moderate temperatures and limited snowfall. While January’s heavy rain stood out, the overall lack of sunshine and snow made for a rather grey season.
