Luxembourg's national weather service, Meteolux, has released a preliminary assessment of the 2023/2024 winter season, analysing weather patterns from 1 December to 20 February.

Temperatures throughout the winter have been notably higher than the historical average recorded between 1991 and 2020.

At Findel Airport, temperatures averaged 4.4 degrees Celsius, marking the second warmest winter since 1947. This figure stands 2.5 degrees above the long-term average.

Particularly noteworthy is February, which emerged as the warmest February on record at Findel Airport. This winter season was characterised by a mere 26 days of frost. Additionally, snowfall has been scarce, occurring only on nine days — a stark contrast to the typical average of 21 days.

Sunshine hours have also been notably diminished this winter, with only 60% of the expected sunlight recorded thus far. February, in particular, witnessed historically low levels of sunshine at Findel Airport, marking an unprecedented occurrence for the month.
