Three former industrial sites across Luxembourg are slated for transformation into large residential districts, aiming to provide thousands of new homes in the coming years.
In Esch-sur-Alzette, work is progressing at the ‘Roud Lëns’ site. The 11-hectare development will feature 1,400 homes, 439 of which are designated as affordable housing by the city. The first residents are expected to move in within approximately 18 months.
In Dudelange, the former steelworks site “NeiSchmelz” will undergo a 20-year redevelopment, ultimately providing 1,600 homes for an estimated 3,600 new inhabitants. The project, which aims to use geothermal energy for heating, could see its first occupants in four years.
Meanwhile, in Wiltz, the “Wunne mat der Wooltz” project is advancing on a 34-hectare site that once housed a football pitch and a leather factory. Plans include 1,085 homes, with 70% allocated for rent. The first phase is scheduled for completion by next summer, with the entire district expected to be finished within a decade, eventually housing around 2,500 people.
