The former site of the ‘Ideal’ leather factory in Wiltz has been subjected to much change since earlier this year, as the 75-metre chimney is to be integrated in the new housing project. The site, which once hosted over 1,000 employees, will become housing with space for over 2,000 people.
The 34-hectare plot will become home to 1,085 new residences, made up of single houses and apartments, offering homes to everyone from singletons to families. The first 30 properties are expected to be completed in summer 2026.
“We hope to have around 76 properties completed by the end of next year”, explains Housing Fund director Jacques Vandivinit in conversation with RTL. The first phase of the development will see around 500 homes constructed.
The project titled ‘Wunne mat der Wooltz’ (‘Living with the Wiltz river’), is planned to be completed in 2035. 30% of properties will go on sale, while the remainder will be rented out as part of the affordable housing plan.
“Rent will be calculated in accordance to tenants’ net earnings”, Vandivinit noted.
A new school at the site already opened in September 2023, accompanied by a wraparound childcare (Maison Relais).
