Increasing trendLuxembourg has third-highest percentage of home workers in the EU

11% of employed persons in Luxembourg work from home, a new Eurostat study concludes.

On average, in 2018, 5.2% of employed persons aged 15 to 64 in the European Union (EU) usually worked from home, a figure that has remained rather constant over the last decade or so. The share of those occasionally working from home has increased from 5.8% in 2008 to 8.3% in 2018.

Opinion: Working remotely: The good, the bad, and the downright lonelyThe Netherlands topped the list of EU Member States with 14% of employees working from home, closely followed by Finland (13.3%), Luxembourg (11.0%) and Austria (10.0%). In contrast, very few people usually worked from home in Bulgaria (0.3%) and Romania (0.4%).

Furthermore, a slightly higher share of women than men worked from home (5.5% compared to 5.0%). Age also plays a role: older employees are more likely to work from home than the young.
