Rail travel across France faced major disruptions on Wednesday as railway workers went on strike, leading to the cancellation of numerous regional trains. In addition, every second Intercity and every third TGV service was cancelled, significantly impacting train traffic throughout the country.
The industrial action was initiated by the four major trade unions representing staff at the French National Railway Company (SNCF). They are calling for higher wages and resisting government plans to open the rail sector to increased competition.
Cross-border connections with Luxembourg are also affected. Passengers travelling between Luxembourg, Thionville, and Metz should expect delays and cancellations until midnight. Further information can be found on the CFL (Luxembourg National Railway Company) website at cfl.lu.
