New data from Eurostat show that 1 in 6 young people in the EU are not in employment or education.

This corresponds to approximately 15 million or 16.5% of the total number of people between the ages of 20 and 34.

Luxemborug's rate meanwhile stands at 9.9%, behind just the Netherlands (8.4%) and Sweden (8%). On the other end of the spectrum are Italy (28.9%), Greece (26.8%), and Bulgaria (20.9%).

There is also a considerable difference between the genders.

The EU average for men between 20 and 34 years of age is 12.2%, compared to 20.9% for women. There's a similar gender imbalance in Luxembourg, at 7.5% for men and 12.4% for women.
