The FNCTTFEL (National Federation of Railroad Workers, Transport Workers, Civil Servants and Employees), commonly known as the Landesverband, did well in the social elections in March.

Of the 54 seats to represent those in the sector, Landesverband delegates were elected to 38. With the OGBL’s help, the trade union also fielded candidates for Luxtram following a history of clashes.

At the 1 May meeting, George Merenz, president of the Landesverband, highlighted that their lead candidate for the tram delegation had been fired by Luxtram without due cause. The affair is likely to end in court.

92.6% of Luxtram’s personnel voted in the social elections. Merenz hoped that the government and the city authorities would understand the message shown by the high turnout amongst Luxtram employees.

Merenz reiterated the trade union’s demands, which are that Luxtram cease the use of social dumping and instate a high-quality collective agreement. He highlighted that the FNCTTFEL is open to dialogue and understands the government’s priorities of digitalisation and climate change.

Nevertheless, Merenz continued, the Landesverband would not alter its stance on free public transport. Despite the status of free public transport as practically accomplished, the Landesverband remains adamantly against it, citing a fear of job losses. In turn, the federation is calling for a 15-year contract extension between the state and the CFL to ensure these jobs are not lost.
