Majerus will step down from his position on the Esch-sur-Alzette municipal council before the end of the year.

Cathy Pastoret is now expected to take over his role in the coalition between CSV, Greens, and DP. In the 2017 elections, she gained the fourth-most votes for the Greens, who get to fill three seats on the municipal council.

Majerus wants to leave the Greens to join the new political venture led by former CSV president Frank Engel. Former DP politician Marc Ruppert, who is already on board, took to social media to welcome Mejerus’ decision.

In a statement, Majerus explained why he decided to leave his party: “Unfortunately, the Greens have abandoned many of their values after becoming part of the administration.”
