During the national congress of the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), which took place on Saturday, Elisabeth Margue was elected new co-president of the conservatives. At the beginning of her interview with RTL Radio, the politician was first asked about the ‘Frëndeskrees’ affaire, which saw her and five other CSV members put on trial by their own party colleagues.
Even though they were all acquitted in the end, Margue underlined that it was certainly not an easy moment for her or the party: “Now, it is time to look ahead.” She referred to next year’s elections and explained that there is a lot left to do until then. She also noted that internal disputes should not be fought out in public.
When asked about her future role in the party, Margue elaborated that even though the CSV is doing important work in the Chamber of Deputies, the party often fails to communicate deputies’ efforts to the population at large, which Margue wants to improve.
The co-president also talked about young voices in the party and how the CSV has managed to build a team of young politicians on the municipal level. When asked about more senior MPs and their intention to run again, Margue said that the decision is up to them.
In terms of the government’s proposed solution to the rising energy prices, Margue expressed her belief that the tripartite compromise will bear fruit. Nevertheless, she also underlined that the middle class cannot be left behind and that it needs to be able to benefit from proposed measures to make a difference.
