Minister of Labour Marc Spautz is meeting with social partners on Tuesday to discuss the national minimum wage.
The employers were the first to sit down with the minister at 8am. Michel Reckinger, President of the Luxembourg Employers’ Association (UEL), told RTL following the talks that an increase in the minimum wage would currently be unsustainable. Sectors such as the skilled trades, hospitality, and retail are already facing major difficulties, he argued, adding that a minimum wage hike would not be appropriate. According to Reckinger, the discussions, which lasted just over an hour, were constructive.
In the afternoon, trade unions are scheduled to meet with government representatives.
