As of 5 January 2026, Luxembourg’s emergency services can initiate video calls to better assist people during 112 calls.

Emergency services in Luxembourg can now use video calls to communicate with people in distress.

As explained by Home Affairs Minister Léon Gloden, 112 operators can send a text message with a link that grants access to the caller’s camera and microphone, allowing them to continue the conversation via video.

However, this feature is not used automatically for every call, just when the situation calls for it. In such cases, it allows the 112 operator to better understand and assess complex situations, Gloden explained in response to a parliamentary question from Pirate Party MP Marc Goergen. If needed, the video function also helps guide individuals on site to take appropriate action.
