A total of 42,094 new car registrations were recorded in Luxembourg in 2022. This likely came as an unsatisfying result for the sector, as the last comparably low figure was recorded in 1999 with 40,989 cars.

The drop from last year, a year which had also record a year-on-year decline in new sales, is 2,278 vehicles (-5.1%). This tendency was partially caused by the pandemic, delivery delays, inflation, and uncertainty about the choice of engine.

The share of electric vehicles among new car registrations reached 15.2% in 2022, up from 10.5% of new cars in 2021. Hybrids remained stable in their popularity, even slightly increasing with a share of 28.2%, up from 26.3% in 2021.
